Biographie
Fofo Skarfo est un artiste togolais, au background initial de rappeur. Il construit sa carrière solo depuis 2015, après quelques années à évoluer au sein des groupes Out Zone puis La Source. Marquant sa nouvelle présence sur la scène musicale par le single Balle perdue, l’artiste travaille dans la foulée sur un premier album.
Titré 13 Janvier en référence à sa date de naissance, l’album est salué par la critique et le public comme un des meilleurs projets de l’année 2018. Avec diverses pistes qui font sensation, notamment Alolekeo, Petit Pays, Agomayi et la collaboration Nobody avec la légende King Mensah. Devenu un classique de la musique togolaise, l’opus suscite plusieurs nominations et récompenses aux All Music Awards et aux Heroes. En 2019 et 2020, il se produit en concert live sur la scène de l’Institut Français du Togo. Cet album révèle toutes les qualités et la polyvalence musicale de l’artiste. On y découvre Fofotché, chanteur, directeur artistique, et performeur hors-pair.
Début 2021 Fofo Skarfo travaille sur de nouveaux territoires musicaux. Testant ses limites sur diverses sonorités, un patchwork organique entre Afrofunk, Afrobeats et acoustique qu’il nomme Afro Eclec’. Il collabore avec plusieurs artistes du Togo et du continent. Le résultat, la mixtape VOYÂGES, Volume 1. Projet qui marque définitivement sa transition du hip-hop vers un plus grand éclectisme. Sortie en novembre, VOYÂGES reçoit un accueil enthousiaste. En avril 2022, l’artiste tient un concert live élaboré autour du concept. Une performance mémorable, un univers artistique et une scénographie immersive consacrent l’image d’un Fofo Skarfo qui assume sa propre direction artistique. Le projet est un succès total.
D’un projet à un autre, divers éléments soudent et mettent en cohérence le travail de l’artiste. Lyricalement, ses territoires d’expression majeurs restent la quête de soi, l’identité, l’amour, les réalités sociopolitiques du Togo et du continent. Aussi, une vidéographie puissante et riche en symbole accompagne sa musique, construite avec le réalisateur Dodo Adogli, elle est l’autre marqueur d’originalité de Fofo Skarfo
Aujourd’hui, il continue de travailler dans l’ombre sur de nouvelles propositions musicales, prenant les tendances avec recul. Son crédo, chercher, explorer et créer neuf, créer différent. “Ce que je veux c’est créer l’inédit. Qu’on m’écoute et qu’on se dise This guy brings something different, something new”, dit-il.

At the beginning of 2021, Fofo Skarfo is working on new musical territories. Testing his limits on various sounds, an organic patchwork between Afrofunk, Afrobeats and acoustics that he calls Afro Eclec’. He collaborates with several artists from Togo and the continent. The result is the mixtape VOYÂGES, Volume 1. A project that definitively marks his transition from hip-hop to a greater eclecticism. Released in November, VOYÂGES was enthusiastically received. In April 2022, the artist held an elaborate live concert around the concept. A memorable performance, an artistic universe and an immersive scenography consecrate the image of Fofo Skarfo who assumes his own artistic direction. The project was a complete success.
From one project to the next, various elements weld together and bring coherence to the artist’s work. Lyrically, his major territories of expression remain the quest for self, identity, love and the socio-political realities of Togo and the continent. A powerful, symbolically rich video accompanies his music, created with director Dodo Adogli, and is Fofo Skarfo’s other marker of originality.
Today, he continues to work behind the scenes on new musical proposals, taking a step back from trends. His credo is to seek, explore and create something new, something different. « What I want is to create something new.
